The prestigious Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, MA is a private boarding middle school for boys in grades 6-9.
DTC provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services for the 37,000 sq. ft. Science, Art and Music Building. The addition includes rooms for painting, ceramics, woodwork, photography and stone carving in addition to a music practice area as well as science laboratories. The project includes several aspects of heating and cooling for the addition.
DTC provided full service MEP engineering, including designs for the vertical bore geothermal system which utilizes variable refrigerant flow type water source heat pumps for heating, cooling, and ventilation. Radiant floors were used for primary heating in the winter and are served by a water to water heat pump with a gas fired condensing boiler for back up. The hydronic system also services the snow melt system throughout the adjacent quad. Photovoltaic solar panels were installed on the roof and the building has generator back up.
A challenge DTC overcame in the design of the project includes a lack of ceiling space in the rooms, which means creating alternative designs discreetly blending the piping and ductwork into the exposed spaces. Some ways this was done were hiding exposed duct work and locating the piping within the walls.
Construction of the project was completed in 2017.
