DTC designed streetscape and pavement improvements to Campbell Avenue from Brown Street to U.S. Route 1 (Orange Avenue), a distance of approximately 9,500 feet, for the City of West Haven.

The existing road was nominally 40 feet wide with occasional wider sections for bus stops. Adjacent properties are commercial and residential. The West Haven campus of the Veterans’ Administration Medical Center and University of New Haven abut Campbell Avenue. The majority of the roadway pavement was in fair condition. However, some areas exhibited alligator cracking. Since alligator cracking was generally a result of poor base material, full depth reconstruction was required in these areas. The remainder of Campbell Avenue was milled and overlaid.

Streetscape improvements consisted of installing or replacing the concrete and stenciled sidewalk, concrete curb, benches, street trees, signing, lighting and trash receptacles.

This project included survey, design, traffic circulation study, construction documents, bidding phase services and construction engineering and inspection services.
