Diversified Technology Consultants Southern Connecticut State University Dormitories
New Haven, CT

A design-build project, DTC was responsible for the preparation of the program design for construction of a new dormitory project. This 350-bed apartment-style 111,700 SF residence hall accommodates a mix of two and four students per suite. Each unit contains two furnished bedrooms, bathroom, furnished living/ dining area and a small kitchen.

In addition, there are accommodations for 14 Resident Assistant staff and one Resident Director, each with his or her own unit. DTC was also retained to perform construction administration on-site throughout the aggressive one-year project schedule to ensure program requirements were being met. This dormitory project also required Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification and commissioning for which DTC provided services to insure compliance with the requirements.

DTC, as part of the commissioning process, prepared a Commissioning Manual that included all the functional and prefunctional test requirements for the HVAC, plumbing, electrical and fire protection systems. DTC worked closely in the field with the contractors to ensure proper documented startup, performance and operation of all the systems which included a cooling tower, a chiller, 350 fan coil units, standby generator, oil-fired boilers, Simplex fire alarm system, and other major building components.
