DTC's contract with MBTA consists of in-depth inspection and structure rating of 80 commuter rail bridges along the MBTA's Franklin, Needham, Stoughton and Shoreline Branches. The in-depth inspections will be actual field inspections of the bridge structures including "fracture critical" members. An inspection report will be prepared with repair recommendations included. The bridge ratings will consist of analyzing the live load carrying capacity of the existing structures. The project is expected to last three years. The MBTA is the nation's oldest and fourth largest transportation system, with approximately 600 structures for which they are responsible.
