Ludlow High School
Fairfield, CT
DTC was part of a team led by Perkins Eastman Architects to provide civil engineering and landscape architecture services for the renovation of and additions to the Ludlow High School Project in Fairfield, CT. The improvements will provide space for approximately 700 students and include renovating approximately 287,000 square feet and constructing a 40,000-square foot addition.
DTC’s site design group created an environmentally sound and cost effective site plan for this project. New design elements included a sanitary sewer system, 680-space parking lot, and separate parent drop-off area. The existing drainage system was slightly modified to tie into the adjacent middle school’s stormwater management system.
Our in-house landscape architecture studio incorporated unique design elements to minimize the steep grade to meet ADA compliance standards for the 32-acre site. Design elements for the school’s athletic facilities included a regulation track, grass lacrosse/field hockey field and six tennis courts. DTC was also responsible for designing an artificial-turf football/soccer field with permanent, handicapped-accessible grandstand seating and modular press box.
In addition, DTC provided landscape architecture and civil engineering services as a sub-consultant to Perkins Eastman Architects for the renovation and upgrade to Sturges Park adjacent to the Ludlow High School. The Mill Plain Road Driveway was restructured to include an ornamental fence along the roadway to preserve existing foliage. Due to over usage and lack of adequate drainage, all fields (baseball, softball, soccer and partial football practice fields) were repaired and irrigation and under-drainage systems. To meet ADA compliance, the site plan also called for a handicapped accessible path between athletic fields and the high school. Other landscape improvements include site work for the athletic equipment facility and inclusion of landscape buffers to protect existing trees and shrubbery.
