DTC provided civil and structural engineering design and landscape architectural design services for the construction the New University of Connecticut School of Biology/Pharmacy. The project was a design/build project with Davis Brody Bond, LLP of New York.
Design elements included related site improvements, landscaping, and connections to all utilities within the site at existing sources except for chilled water.
The structural design consisted of composite structural steel floors, concrete shear walls and a two-way concrete flat slab underground vivarium. The design also included practical span lengths, bay spacing and the labs adhere to strict vibration criteria. Structural special inspection services were also provided for the facility.
The civil design incorporated conceptual design solutions for the on-site utility systems, fire protection systems, drainage systems, grading paving, and curb cuts, as required for the project.
The landscape design services included preliminary details for landscape construction, materials, plantings, fixtures and furnishings.
Winner of 2006 Connecticut Building Congress Award of Merit.
