Accelerated Bridge Program Attleboro

Project Overview

DTC designed two (2) new single-span bridges to replace the two (2) three-span structures carrying I-95 Northbound and Southbound over North Avenue.  This project is part of the MassDOT Accelerated Bridge Program (ABP) and consists of:

  • Four (4) precast bridge units for the Northbound bridge and five (5) precast bridge units for the Southbound bridge joined by C.I.P. closure pours
  • Precast abutments and wingwalls for both bridges
  • Provision of additional auxiliary lane on Southbound bridge to accommodate planned modifications made to I-295 ramp located south of project limits
  • New noise barrier along west fascia attached to Southbound bridge traffic barrier
  • Temporary bridge in highway median to allow for three (3) lanes of travel in both directions throughout construction
  • Temporary bridge abutments supported on piles
  • Stage construction to replace one (1) bridge each construction season
  • Water, gas, sewer, telephone, electrical, fiber optic and communication utilities will not be supported by the bridges but are located in the construction area

The new single-span bridges have a span length of 63’-6” and will be skewed 8.74 degrees.  The temporary bridge was designed to have a span of 120’-0” with no skew.
