DTC Goes Back to School
North
Haven , Conn
It's back-to-school time and DTC's emphasis on education is evident in
our new, current and recently completed projects. Over the past two decades,
DTC has emerged as the region's leader in the planning and design of engineering
solutions for educational facilities. Our expertise ranges from public
elementary schools, military training centers, to medical research facilities
for major universities. Our strength in the educational facility arena
is represented by our selection to the following new projects:
DTC is teaming
with Jeter Cook & Jepson on the long awaited, new high school in Madison,
Conn. The $48 million Daniel Hand High School is to be constructed on
a site adjacent to the existing high school. The plan calls for construction
of a new three story building with classrooms and administration connected
by a second floor walkway/student commons space to another building with
common core spaces like the gymnasium, the cafetorium, music group rehearsal
rooms and fine art studios. Both buildings will be fully wired for computer
technology access and use. Current plans call for the new high school
to be open in August of 2003. DTC is providing civil/site engineering
and landscape architecture to the project.
The Connecticut
Department of Public Works selected DTC with Tai Soo Kim Partners as the
consultant Design Team for the $32 million Additions and Major Renovations
project for Henry Abbott Regional Vocational Technical School in Danbury,
CT.
DTC is providing
Tai Soo Kim Partners with Civil/Site, Landscape Architecture and Environmental
services focusing on strategic planning, existing and additional parking,
access and delivery site layout and development and drainage. In addition
to other major renovations the project's master plan recommends the addition
of a new 62,500 square feet shop wing to house all shop trade activities
and replace the existing wing.
DTC and Tai
Soo Kim Partners have also teamed for the demolition and new construction
of McKinley Elementary School in Fairfield. Following emergency repairs
and an assessment by DTC's Fairfield Associates subsidiary, the town opted
to demolish the old school and rebuild on the same site. DTC will provide
MEP, Site, Civil and Structural Engineering, Landscape Architecture and
Environmental Services.
DTC is teaming
with Perkins Eastman Architects, providing Civil Engineering and Landscape
Architecture services on several school projects in Fairfield including
construction of the new Ludlowe Middle School, renovation and conversion
of the former Ludlowe Middle School into a new high school and renovations
to the existing Fairfield High School.
The Connecticut
DPW has also selected DTC to provide on-call MEP services for the Connecticut
Community Technical College System. The two-year contract has a $300,000
upset limit.
