boston01DTC was selected in 2007 for an On-call Bridge Inspection Contract for bridges located throughout the Commonwealth. The work includes the inspection of bridge structures statewide in accordance with the Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) National Bridge Inspection Standards, the FHWA Recording and Coding Guide for the Structural Inventory and Appraisal of the Nation’s Bridges, and the MassHighway Bridge Inspection Handbook. The work includes the review of previous inspection reports, preparing Structural Inventory and Appraisal (SI&A) sheets and other pertinent data, field inspections, and preparing bridge inspection reports based on the Bridge Inspection 4D database. Inspections include routine, in-depth, fracture critical, and special member inspections.

Work is assigned by number and includes two to four bridges per assignment. Bridge spans include single and multi-span bridges over local and state roads as well as river crossings. Since the issuance of the contract, DTC has received ten (10) assignments totaling the inspection of twenty (20) bridges. In addition, DTC has also been involved with the annual freeze/thaw inspection of bridges located along the I-495 corridor. Bridge types have included single and multi-span structures over roads and water. DTC has been responsible for performing all of the inspections including routine, fracture critical, and special member inspections. Bridge superstructure types have included steel continuous stringer/girder, concrete and masonry arches, concrete cast-in-place, and prestressed concrete stringer/girder.
